If Santa really is keeping track of who’s been naughty or nice this year, he’s sure to put this group on the top of his “nice” list.
In true holiday spirit, three of the most impressive tourism entities in Maryland’s “Capital Region,” located just minutes from the nation’s capital, are working together this season to help families create special memories. Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center, National Harbor and Six Flags America have been as busy as Santa’s elves, crafting a stay-and-play package that allows guests to experience the very best of the holiday season at the very best price.
The Capital Christmas Fun Package ensures that visitors get a full holiday experience, all less than 15 minutes away from Washington, DC. This special opportunity is available on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights throughout the holiday season as well as the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day. Rates for the package start at $304 for two people and $388 for four guests and include the following:
- Two nights’ accommodations at the Gaylord National Resort
- Tickets to ICE! featuring Christmas Around the World, a special holiday attraction at the Gaylord National Resort
- Tickets to The Capital Wheel, an attraction at National Harbor (with enclosed gondolas)
- Tickets to Six Flags America’s new event, Holiday in the Park
The Capital Christmas Fun Package is the perfect way for families to experience the sights, sounds, tastes and even the smells (Six Flags America is piping in the scent of candy canes!) of the season. And when all those senses combine, it results in a feeling unlike any other. Each of the three partners knows how to create its own individual holiday magic; combined, this trio has managed to offer an experience unmatched by any other destination.
Since it opened in 2008, Gaylord National Resort has hosted “Christmas on the Potomac,” an annual celebration that includes nightly fountain shows, indoor snowfall, and a 55-foot-tall suspended Christmas tree in the hotel’s stunning atrium, plus its award-winning ICE! attraction. ICE! is a walk-through event that brings Christmas alive via colorful carved ice sculptures. (Yes, visitors get to borrow a parka to wear on their journey through the nine-degree attraction!) Though this is the eighth year for the event, its theme changes annually, and the concept for 2016 is “Christmas Around the World.” The theme also has inspired a new dining opportunity at the resort this holiday season: a sampling of Christmas cookies from around the world.
Though the resort’s activities are all within the hotel complex, families will be inspired to wander outside to enjoy the festivities throughout the waterfront destination of National Harbor. The community of 160 shops and more than 40 restaurants comes alive each winter season, featuring live entertainment, Saturday viewings of favorite holiday movies, and plenty of opportunities to see Santa. The harbor complex also features two year-round rides, The Carousel at National Harbor and The Capital Wheel, which stands 180 feet tall and offers stunning views of sites all along the Potomac River.
For even more rides, families can’t miss Six Flags America, Maryland’s only theme park. For the first time ever, the park will be open for the holiday season. “Holiday in the Park” transforms the park into a winter wonderland, complete with new seasonal characters, holiday entertainment, a variety of delicacies and – of course – favorite theme park rides. More than two dozen of the park’s rides will be operating this holiday season, including some designed especially for the youngest guests and others aimed at thrill-seekers who want to know what it’s like to ride a roller coaster amidst sparkling holiday lights (weathering permitting, of course).
Guests are encouraged to book their Capital Christmas Fun Package faster than a team of reindeer can circle the globe … and give their families the absolutely non-exchangeable gift of time together. For more information, visit www.GaylordNational.com or call 301-965-4000.
