The Capital Wheel at National Harbor Features Special Light Packages to Promote Group Meetings, Conventions and Conferences
New Lighting Upgrade Allows for Dazzling Light Shows, Custom Displays and High-Speed Animation
NATIONAL HARBOR, Md., June 30, 2025—Earlier this year, The Capital Wheel at National Harbor relaunched with an all new, $1M light package with significant technological upgrades. The 180-foot iconic observation wheel now has additional lights allowing more dynamic light shows with high-speed animations, custom messages and vibrant displays.
The advanced lighting system upgraded The Capital Wheel from 16 to 40+ frames per second, allowing not only animation but sharper graphics, more brilliant colors and interactive displays. The Wheel can now showcase uncomplicated logos and/or display corporate colors.
In addition, organizations can hold an event at Flight Deck, a cocktail area just beneath the Wheel and overlooking the waterfront. From there, they can watch the colors and custom light show as the sun sets over the Potomac.
“It’s a dazzling display,” said Executive Vice President Asset Management, Operations, and Marketing at National Harbor Kent Digby. “And such a great way for companies and organizations to promote their meetings and conferences. The light show capabilities are amazing and a unique way to enhance a meeting or corporate event.”
There are two custom light packages available. A standard package that provides a full evening of lights on The Capital Wheel—colors that can be set to form a light show. The premium package includes promotion of the event on screens throughout The Capital Wheel and Flight Deck on the day of the event; a custom branded photo background where all guests visiting on the day of the event can take a customized souvenir photo with the organization’s logo or choice of wording. Also included is a custom announcement highlighting the organization and sponsorship of the light show that is played over the speaker system throughout the course of the day.
The light shows begin at sunset and run until 10 p.m. Prices start at $3,000.
“It’s such a fun surprise to see conference attendees realize their organization’s logo is on The Capital Wheel. The reactions are really special,” added Digby.
