Freedom Before Emancipation: Family Day for Juneteenth

Juneteenth is the celebration of Emancipation Day in 1865. Long before emancipation, many people enslaved at Mount Vernon resisted enslavement and sought freedom.
At this Family Day, learners of all ages can discover how Ona Judge, Christopher Sheels, and many other men and women enslaved at Mount Vernon defined their agency and the legacies they left behind.
